Our Philosophy

We believe each child...

Is an individual with unique potential who deserves respect and support to fully develop.

Builds him/herself during each plane of development in which sensitive periods allow him/her to learn with ease.

Therefore, we believe in providing...

A prepared environment tailored to the characteristics of the child that ensures the security, support, love, and freedom within limits in which the child can thrive.

Developmentally appropriate opportunities where the child is invited to build him/herself physically, socially, cognitively, and emotionally.

The Evolution of Little Ones Montessori School

Little Ones at Rooster Road: A Montessori Children's House was founded in 2005 by Michael Dunnivant and her husband, Daniel E. Dunnivant, and was intended to serve Primary children ages three to six years in a high quality Association Montessori Internationale inspired Montessori environment.

Together, Michael and Dan established a Limited Liability Corporation that is funded by tuition, grants, and donations from benefactors who are also committed to transforming children’s lives through self-construction in a Montessori environment.

After over 20 years of working in the education field, both in the public and private sector, as a teacher, trainer, and researcher, Michaél undertook the process of turning the present facility from a house into a Children's House for Little Ones Montessori.

The present facility is located under the old oaks of South Daytona on a quiet street. This affords the children a large shaded outdoor yard and garden area for work and play. The property is also convenient to major shopping, attractions, and beautiful Daytona Beach.

Little Ones Montessori, in its fourth year of operation, is now a private school and has expanded its programs to include a Toddler Community, ages 15 months to three years and Lower Elementary, ages 6 - 9 years. In Fall 2009, a second Children's House will be added to meet the growing demand. With its expansion, Little Ones at Rooster Road: A Montessori Children's House has become Little Ones Montessori School.

Our Mission

To aid and respect the child in discovering her/his unique potential, quest for learning, and independence.

Free the child's potential, and you will transform him into the world.

-Maria Montessori

Montessori Philosophy

Montessori is an education which focuses on the development of the whole child moving toward independence.  Each individual’s learning is respected and fostered in a prepared environment that is safe, supportive, loving, and beautiful. In this environment, the child actively participates and manipulates appealing materials with the guidance of a trained and tender Montessori teacher. Through individualized lessons and the child’s hands-on work, the child discovers the world. Mathematics, language, the arts and sciences are thoughtfully presented so the child can learn and become an integrated individual and a global citizen respectful of himself, others, and the environment.

Montessori Education, founded in 1907 by Dr. Maria Montessori in Italy, continues to thrive around the world today. Anchored in careful and timeless observations of human growth and development from birth to maturity and grounded in learning theory that is still valid today, the method remains a dynamic and effective education, across cultural and socio-economic boundaries
